  • The University of Rhode Island Program

The University of Rhode Island, International Center, 37 Lower College Road, Kingston, Rhode Island, 02881 USA, (hereafter URI) and Shanghai University Of International Business And Economics, 1900 Wenxiang Rd, Songjiang Qu, Shanghai, People's Republic of China, (hereafter, SUIBE) agree to develop a plan for an International Bachelor's SUIBE/URI (2.5+1.5) program for SUIBE students that will be delivered partly at SUIBE and partly at URI and will lead to degrees from both URI and SUIBE. The educational objective of the program is to prepare students in selected academic disciplines, who are proficient in the language, society, and culture of both countries, to be able to interface between the two cultures. At this point, we are inviting applications from SUIBE sophomores for this (2.5+1.5) program. SUIBE School of Finance students can enroll in the URI College of Business and major in Finance.



TERMS OF ADMISSION

After two (2) years of study at Shanghai University of International Business and Economics, SUIBE students will study at URI for one and a half (1.5) years to complete the required 51 credits. After the completion of all URI required classes, SUIBE students will return back to SUIBE to complete their degreerequirements at SUIBE. It is possible that students may finish the URI requirements within two (2) full semesters, winter term plus a full summer load of classes.


SUIBE will work with URl's College of Business to ensure the quality of SUIBE students.


SUIBE applicants fo this (2.5+1.5) program must provide proof of English language proficiency. English language proficiency may be demonstrated by one of the following:

Duolingo English Test (DET): minimum score of 105

TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 79

IELTS: minimum score of 6.5

Cambridge English: Advanced: 176-184

Pearson Test of English: minimum score of 53

Eiken Test of English: completion of level Pre-1



ACADEMIC REGULATIONS

All SUIBE/URI (2.5+1.5) students shall be subject to the same academic regulations and policies regarding class performance, community standards, and student discipline systems at URI. In addition, all students must abide by the following:


In accordance with URI academic requirements for its regularly enrolled students, SUIBE incoming students are expected to be in good academic standing for continuation in the program. To remain in "good academic standing," students must maintain a 2.0 overall grade point average. If such has not been achieved, URI will deny continued enrollment without refund of program cost.


SUIBE/URI (2.5+1.5) students must be prepared linguistically, so as to be able to participate in the instructional programs of the host university with success; applicants will be expected to meet URI published English proficiency standards.



PROTOCOLS: Tuition, Housing, Health Insurance, Conduct

SUIBE/URI (2.5+1.5) students will pay URI international student tuition and fees to URI when they study at URI.


Each student is responsible for living expenses, including during extended academic recess (e.g., summer, winter and spring breaks), all transportation costs, books and supplies, health insurance, and personal and incidental expenses.


URI will agree to make available on-campus housing or its equivalent to the SUIBE students during the academic term. Students must comply with the URI residence's requirements and deadlines (e.g., application, deposits and payments for residence halls or comparable housing) and arrive on the scheduled dates.


All students coming to URI are required to purchase URI health insurance. All International students will be automatically enrolled in and are responsible for payment of the University Accident/Sickness Insurance Plan unless they apply for and are granted a waiver.


Waiver of URI insurance will require that students show proof of other comparable health insurance that matches the medical insurance regulations mandated by the URI Health Insurance Policy. URI Health Services reserves the right to compel students to purchase URI health insurance if the health insurance advanced by the student is found to be insufficient. Lack of compliance will result in immediate dismissal.


While minor illnesses may be treated at the URI Health Services, each student must be covered by insurance to cover medical contingencies of greater magnitude while in the host country that adhere to the University of Rhode Island Health Services Office.


Violation of laws committed in the host country shall subject the exchange student to immediate withdrawal of his/her immigration and academic sponsorship and to immediate expulsion from the host country. A student may be returned home for violations of conduct considered serious by either institution but only after consultation between the parties responsible for administering the cooperative agreement.
